Behind the Scenes

The Fashion Show did not get off to a wonderful start on my behalf, due to my health issue Philippa had to step in with the initial organisation of the show, where we decided upon solidly choosing fashion as our shows topic. In my absence the team also discussed a few first potential ideas which were then confirmed after I had attended the second meeting. Thankfully Philippa did not mind the additional work, and informed me of everything that happened in the meeting which was not only helpful but very happy with the ideas set forward by the team.

In the second meeting organised I sat down with the team and discussed over their specific ideas for packages and additional content during the show which were excellent. A lot of the ideas for content were local and set to be very age unrestricted, which was excellent. Some of those ideas were; A Local Barbershop interview (due to the current trend of beards coming back into fashion), a local fabric shop, due to the increasing number of people creating or modifying their own clothes, and a children’s clothes shop, to provide information for any parents listening to the show that may want to learn information.

Moving forward in time and the planned packages are coming along nicely. The weekend before the show, the planned packages above had been recorded and edited (I helped do a lot of the editing with the BA) and they all passed my standards to make sure I felt they were appropriate and passed the broadcast requirements of Siren FM. I got together with the presenters and created the trailer which we had emailed over to Siren FM for playback during the days prior to the show.

I felt on Friday that the show needed some backup content, so drew up a list of potential items to add to the show. I decided that a nice possibility to add a little time, but more importantly great content to the show would be to add some public VOXs. The rest of the team agreed and decided that they would go out over the weekend and during Monday and make a couple of VOXs. In the end we did not use these, but it was not time wasted as it was handy to have back up content.

During the run up to the show, I had found that the presenters had composed their own script, which was handy however everything was checked over by myself and was to a great standard. Philippa did an excellent job of creating the script for her and Mark to follow as loosely as possible (so not to sound too scripted). I also had to help the BA Matt, out a number of times as he was very unsure on operating the desk and how to use the Myriad software, however after my help felt more confident.

Personally sometimes I felt like I had delegated a lot of jobs to the other members of the team, but in later reflection it felt like the delegation was necessary to ensure everything ran to a high standard, and smoothly. It also meant I could spend a lot of time ensuring that important tasks were completed, such as a lot of the organisation roles and checking over the created content.

I had also contacted several potential guests via phone (as I feel is the easiest way to ensure contact is gained with someone) who had all respectfully declined or were unable to spare the specific time for the show, and organised a guest for the show, local Fashion college lecturer Rose Davison. This was a very quickly organised guest unfortunately, however I felt she was an excellent choice after one of the other guests suggested by one of the team members let us down. The email conversation I had with her is attached below, however also spoke to her on the phone when she had any questions and on the day of the show.
