On Air

The show got off to a strong start I felt, due to the script being solid and well fitting for both presenters. The levels were slightly off, even after checking but they were quickly rectified from the studio with my assistance with the BA. I felt the presenters worked extremely well together as they seemed to interact or bounce quite well off each other. The presenter chat, which was partly made up on the spot was excellent and the presenters stuck to the schedule subconsciously without needing a time prompt.

After the presenter chat, the pre recorded content started and went into the VOX pops. The team worked well on this, and was very informative and did exactly what was needed. The flow was excellent at this point and the pace was kept and stuck to the time plan. After this, it was promptly led into the recorded interview with Luke’s Barbershop. This interview was also very strong and had a lot of very interesting points. I received a piece of feedback saying the audio could have been edited slightly better, however I felt the interview was good for broadcast. After the interview when going back to the studio, one of the presenters pronounced the location of the interview wrong, but I felt like this needed to be rectified so instructed the presenter to fix his error at the earliest possible stage.

The links into the social media after this point were good, as it meant that users could interact with the show and see the pictures we had taken from the barbershop which was a nice element. I think the presenters could have been a bit more ‘pushy’ towards the social media as is a good interaction channel, however at that particular moment the advertising was good. Everything ran smoothly into the first song which was good as, the song was relevant and kept everything in time.

During the song, I took the guest into the studio who was happy that everything had been explained and planned. The live interview was good, and the levels were checked during the song which ensured the guest was ready for broadcast. I felt the interview questions were good, but some things needed speeding up, so I instructed the presenters to try to keep with a fast pace which they managed to do. At the time I felt that the interview went well but could have been slightly more concise. After the interview this led into a piece of pre-recorded content from River Island, which was not only informative but allowed the guest to leave the studio. The pre record was good, was very relevant to the show content, and I felt that even though it was recorded on the shop floor and the edits were sometimes a little odd, it sounded good.

The presenters on air then introduced the live show guest, where she started an on air sewing project. The chat seemed to get off topic, but again with input from myself was quickly put back on track. It seemed the show had slow slightly behind so the conversation was cut a little bit but, that did not change the quality of the programme as was still good at this point.

After this live guest we moved onto the pre-recorded Skype interview with a fashion blogger. I felt like this was a relevant interview, and was very strong to the content of the show. The audio was a little bit grainy due to it being recorded on the web, but I felt that the BA did a good job of making sure the level was of the correct volume to still be heard. This was followed by one of the excellently edited stings, and another song. This was well planned in my opinion, even though the feedback from others said it was slightly misplaced. I chose this place for the song as it nicely split things up, as it was not suitable to go in another position in the show.

When going back to the studio after the song the levels were badly off again, but this was rectified from the BA when noticed and restored to the correct level. Unsure how this had happened as the levels had not been changed in the studio, but the BA did a good job however needed some guidance on sorting it out. There was a slight mixup from the script into the interview, as the interviewee was spoken about in the studio, and then the same content was on the beginning of the pre record, which was a little confusing but worked out alright in the end. The interview was of relevant content, and fitted the show schedule well. I felt this was another well edited and produced piece. The end of the interview seemed to be cut off well, which meant the BA had to rush to fade the microphones back in, but with assistance that went well.

The studio was then back to the live interview with Emma which was good, she was very lively which picked the programmes up, keeping the overall moral of the show high. The background noise in the section was good as it allowed the listener to hear the noises of the traditional machine. There was a slight technical error which was rectified quickly, as the microphone for Emma (on the sewing machine) was not at the correct level, but with my help the BA sorted this within a few seconds. Another song was played which in reflection I would have removed if the show was done again, as even though it was a good idea at the time due to the progression of the show. This led into another pre-recorded interview, during which I said the pace of the show was good and we needed to keep it up to still be on time. There was a lot of presenter chat after to follow this which was good, as it seemed very natural although somewhat scripted. The link into the pre-recorded interview about the shoe repair shop was good, I think it was interesting. The interview was good, as it had a good ambient sound in the background.

This made sure the show was starting to wrap up nicely as the time was kept to the original schedule. The outro of the show from the studio was well in my opinion, the presenters reacted to the necessity to close the show quickly when the ending element took slightly longer than normal. The presenters and the BA followed the instructions well. Even though personally there was a necessity to finish on a song for Siren FM to allow the content for the rest of the day to be on time, I felt this was not a bad thing. The closing song had a long introduction, which was handy as it allowed the presenters to talk over it and introduce when necessary. In reflection the ending seemed a bit rushed, but working to the time restraints of the station and the importance of finishing on a song, I felt was the only negative factor contributing to this.
